Overview
Pan America Day is observed in Belize on October 12. The name reflects Pan-Americanism, the idea of shared identity and cooperation among the countries of the Americas, and the date coincides with the anniversary of Columbus's 1492 landing that is marked in many parts of the hemisphere.
What It Is
Pan America Day is marked in Belize on October 12 and is listed as an observance rather than a standard public holiday. In 2026 the date falls on a Monday. Because October 12 is shared with other holidays across the Americas, the day sits within a wider regional pattern of observances connected to the same anniversary.
Why It Matters
The name points to Pan-Americanism, the idea that the countries of the Americas share common interests and should cooperate with one another. The date coincides with the day Columbus went ashore at Guanahaní, an island in the Bahamas, in 1492, an event that countries across the hemisphere have long marked in different ways.
